Pacific collections review and New Zealand collection
Published collection review and object database with collecting context
Reading the history of a collection
A review of Pacific and New Zealand museum collections can reveal how objects were acquired, described and sometimes reclassified over generations. Catalogue labels may preserve older scholarly opinions that are subsequently challenged.
The original report text and bibliographic details are not included in this short record. It is therefore kept as a lead for checking object histories rather than used to make claims about particular Kāpiti artefacts. For the waka hoe, the British Museum entry provides an example of why attribution must remain open where experts disagree.
