A volume from the WhaleLIBRARY
A whaling logbook changes language on the voyage to Albany
1952
Albany’s Historic Whaling Station documents the 1952 journey of the steam-powered whale chaser Toern from Sandefjord, Norway, to Albany, Western Australia. The vessel was renamed Cheynes; its logbook entries changed from Norwegian to English. The exhibition combines original logs, photographs and route maps, offering a practical model for presenting Kāpiti voyages without losing the underlying primary record.
